The studies take place at the University of the Saarland (Sarrebrück) for the first and second year and at the University of Toulouse Capitole for the third year of the degree.

Introduction

This dual programme offered by the European School of Law and the Franco-German Law Centre of the University of Saarbrücken in Germany provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the French and German legal systems from a comparative and European perspective. The programme is taught in French for French law and in German for German law, with the first two years in Saarbrücken and the third year in Toulouse.

Objectives

This dual legal expertise, fluency in two specialised languages and experience of student mobility are essential assets for working in the transnational and international field, particularly in institutions (European Union, etc.) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The aim of this double degree is to train professionals with a command of French and German law, a strong analytical capacity and an excellent grasp of legal techniques, as well as dual language skills.

At the end of the three-year programme, students will be awarded the Licence de Droit with a double international diploma from Toulouse Capitole University and the LL.B., a Bachelor's degree from the University of Saarbrücken. They can continue their studies in France (Master's degree) or in Germany (Staatsexamen).

Specificities

The first and second years of the programme will take place at the University of Sarrebrücken and the third year at the University of Toulouse Capitole. Tuition fees are paid to the University of Toulouse Capitole for the three years of the programme. Students also enrol at the University of Saarbrücken without having to pay any registration fees. However, a twice-yearly contribution is required for the University of Saarbrücken, which covers: access to free public transport throughout the Saarland (bus, tram and regional trains); civil liability insurance for all accidents occurring on campus; the provision of a rechargeable student card, which is used to pay for the university canteen and photocopies. The amount of this twice-yearly contribution for the start of the 2021/2022 academic year was €128.30.

If you would like to find out more about university halls of residence in Saarbrücken, we recommend that you consult this link. As the number of rooms available is limited, we recommend that you apply as early as possible.

Application

Conditions of specific applications

Holders or prospective holders of the French baccalauréat or an equivalent diploma from the European Union, the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation should apply at www.parcoursup.fr between 17 January 2024 and 14 March 2024.

A pre-selection of applications will be carried out, followed by an interview for the short-listed candidates. The timetable and interview procedures will be finalised in the first quarter of 2024.

Other candidates should contact: esl@ut-capitole.fr

A maximum of 10 students will be selected for this double degree.

Conditions of admission / Conditions of successful application

Due to limited capacity, all programmes at the European School of Law are subject to selection. In addition to the qualities required for legal studies, this Franco-German double degree requires a very strong motivation to pursue legal studies in a multicultural context (compulsory period of study in a partner university) and a solid command of French and German (at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
