Introduction

This two-year programme, taught entirely in English, is a renewed version of two former Master’s programmes: International and Economic Law, and Cross-Border Disputes.

It offers an integrated legal approach, combining public and private law, to the challenges of global economic governance, and gives students a solid understanding of the many forums in which the global economy is regulated.
The programme focuses on contemporary and emerging issues and adopts a European approach. It covers conflict-of-laws principles in cross-border cases, international courts and tribunals, litigation rules and arbitration, equipping students with the tools needed to work as lawyers in international and European law firms or in European and international institutions. From the first year onwards, students deepen their knowledge by choosing between two tracks: a Business Lawyer track, covering regulatory compliance, international trade law, anti-corruption and export control, ESG and sustainable finance, and company law and M&A, or an EU Careers track, covering bilingual EU legal analysis, State aid, EU fundamental rights and EU external relations.
Few programmes in France offer this combination of cross-disciplinary skills, reflexes, methodology and knowledge, all essential to European legal practice. The LL.M. is also a globally recognised degree, particularly in English-speaking countries.
Career prospects are numerous and varied. Graduates work in international and European law firms, in fields such as international arbitration, cross-border litigation, competition, M&A, and trade and regulatory law, as well as in the in-house legal and compliance departments of multinational companies. Others join arbitration institutions and alternative dispute resolution bodies, the European Union institutions and agencies, national public administrations in charge of European and international affairs, international and non-governmental organisations, or regulatory and competition authorities. The programme also opens the way to academic research and doctoral studies.
In their second year, selected students will be able to undertake an exchange programme at one of the ESL partner universities: Dundee, Scotland (20 seats) or Stetson, Florida (2 seats).
